Deputy Minister of Communication and Digital Nezar Patria said that regarding the Revision of Law Number 32 of 2002 concerning Broadcasting the Government is committed to maintaining media sustainability.
"The government is committed to carrying out some kind of positive intervention in order to maintain what is called media sustainability , how to make the media survive," said Nezar in a discussion held by the Editor-in-Chief Forum at the ANTARA Heritage.
According to Nezar, maintaining the sustainability of the media industry, especially broadcasting, is a constitutional mandate. Article 28F of the 1945 Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia stipulates that everyone has the right to obtain information.
In this case, Nezar added, the information in question must be confirmed to be true. Therefore, maintaining the integrity of information is one of the state's concerns and responsibilities.
He explained that the form of positive intervention by the Government to maintain media sustainability can be done in the form of a media trust fund or media trust fund, as a cost cushion for the media to produce quality information.
"This is similar to, for example, an endowment fund for the cultural sector. Maybe the press sector, the media sector, which carries quality journalism, we also see as important for the community because journalism is a public good ," he said.
