Batuaji Police, Barelang Police, said that the fire on the CPO tanker type Federal II which caught fire while docking at the PT ASL Shipyard caused nine workers to become victims.
"Temporary information from the security team is that a total of 9 victims have been identified," said Batuaji Police Chief AKP Raden Bimo Dwi Lambang when met at Mutiara Aini Batuaji Hospital, Batam City, Riau Islands.
He said that of the nine victims, four people died, four others were seriously injured and one victim had minor injuries.
The victims were subcontractor workers of PT ASL Shipyard who were repairing the CPO tanker Federal II.
The four victims who died were named Gunawan, Berkat Setiawan Gulo, Hermansyah Putra, and Januarius.
Meanwhile, for the injured victims, three people were treated at RA Graha Hermine and Mutiara Aini Hospital.
The five survivors were Alatas Silaban, Upik Hidayat, Amel Rivensky Nababan, Benny Silaban, and Rezki Harianto Butarbutar.
Raden said that his party was still investigating the exact cause of the fire on the tanker that was docked.
Because his party is still waiting for the workers' condition to be stable to be questioned.
"Initial chronology, when the incident occurred, repairs were being carried out on the tank, sparks appeared there," said Raden.
Until this news was published, the victim's family and co-workers were still crowding Mutiara Aini Hospital. Meanwhile, four bodies have been evacuated by the Barelang Police Inafis team to Bhayangkara Hospital for the investigation process.
The victim died due to the burns he suffered.
