Moscow urged Washington to avoid providing direct military assistance to Israel, and even avoid making provocative statements on the matter, in light of the ongoing conflict between Iran and Israel since June 13.
Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov told Interfax about the possibility of the United States directly intervening in the Israeli-Iranian conflict in the Middle East. Ryabkov said, "The United States is always at the heart of all developments, and to say that it has not intervened before but may intervene now, I think, would be incorrect."
He added, "But the different thing is how they view themselves regarding the issue of providing direct military assistance to Israel. We warn Washington against the danger of even provocative or hypothetical options of this kind. That would be a very destructive step to the stability of the entire situation."
On the night of June 13, Israel launched massive strikes against Iran. The stated goal of the operation was to undermine Tehran's nuclear program. In response, the Iranian side began carrying out strikes on Israeli territory.
Earlier on Wednesday, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova stressed that the nuclear threat in the Middle East is not merely hypothetical but has a practical dimension.
Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump said the United States must shoulder its responsibility to " rid the world of great evil."
