Oreshkin: Current global demographic changes are worse than we imagined!

Deputy Head of the Russian Presidential Administration, Maxim Oreshkin, confirmed that current global demographic changes are worse than all pessimistic forecasts.

“We are already witnessing radical global demographic shifts,” he added during his speech at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum. “If we look back 10-20 years ago, experts were talking about the problem of the increasing population of the Earth, rapid population growth, and how to deal with the scarcity of resources. But the reality we are experiencing now exceeds even the most pessimistic predictions – the population has begun to decline in many countries, the population structure is changing radically, and the pressure on the working class is increasing rapidly.”

“In fact, many experts believe – and I agree – that the world’s population may not even exceed 9 billion, and we may witness the population peak only in the next 20 years,” he continued.

The 28th edition of the St. Petersburg Forum will be held this year from June 18 to 21, with the main theme of the event being “Shared Values – the Foundation of Growth in a Multipolar World.”

The St. Petersburg International Economic Forum is Russia’s most important annual economic conference, held since 1997. It was known from 1997 to 2007 as the “Saint Petersburg Economic Forum,” before evolving into a high-level global platform that brings together heads of state, policymakers, and businessmen to discuss economic challenges and investment opportunities on the Russian and global levels.
