The Ministry of Health in Gaza said in a statement on Wednesday that 144 martyrs (including four rescued martyrs) and 560 injured people arrived at hospitals over the past 24 hours, noting that "the death toll from the Israeli aggression has risen to 55,637 martyrs and 129,880 injured since October 7, 2023."
According to eyewitnesses, Israeli attacks targeted homes, tents housing displaced persons, and civilian gatherings in cities in the northern, central, and southern Gaza Strip, injuring dozens of Palestinians.
In southern Gaza City, the Israeli occupation army opened fire on a gathering of civilians waiting for aid near the Netzarim junction, killing 11 Palestinians and wounding dozens, some of them critically.
Information indicates that the occupation forces deliberately target civilians at the limited aid distribution points that Israel allows into the Gaza Strip, where thousands of hungry Palestinians gather around the trucks as soon as they arrive, amid dire humanitarian conditions.
According to the government media office in Gaza, those waiting for aid are either subjected to direct fire from Israeli occupation forces or to attacks carried out by armed gangs indirectly supported by Israel, with the aim of creating chaos and insecurity.
In the Zeitoun neighborhood east of Gaza City, an Israeli airstrike targeted the home of the Manasra family, killing three Palestinians, including a child, and wounding others with varying degrees of injury.
Israeli warplanes also targeted a house in the Maghazi refugee camp in the central Gaza Strip, killing 10 Palestinians and wounding a number of residents.
Two tents housing displaced persons were bombed in the Al-Mawasi area, west of Khan Yunis, in the southern Gaza Strip, killing eight civilians, including children.
"Unacceptable"
For his part, UN Secretary-General António Guterres strongly condemned the targeting of civilians seeking food, describing what happened in southern Gaza as "unacceptable" and calling for an "immediate and independent" investigation into the attacks.
Guterres' remarks came through his deputy, spokesman Farhan Haq, during a press conference held in Geneva, as reported by the UN News website.
Israeli occupation forces committed a bloody massacre on Tuesday morning at the Tahlia roundabout in Khan Yunis Governorate, targeting a gathering of civilians waiting to receive food aid. The attack resulted in the deaths of 51 Palestinians and the injury of more than 200 others, including 20 in critical condition.
The UN spokesman quoted Guterres as saying, "Targeting civilians searching for food is horrific and unacceptable," stressing the need for "an independent investigation and holding those responsible for these violations accountable."
The UN spokesman stressed that humanitarian needs in the Gaza Strip remain "enormous and unmet," calling for "immediate, widespread, and unhindered" access for humanitarian aid.
He also stressed the need to enable the United Nations and humanitarian organizations to carry out their tasks "safely and with full respect for basic humanitarian principles."
Since October 7, 2023, Israel, with American support, has been committing genocide in Gaza, including killing, starvation, destruction, and displacement, ignoring international calls and orders from the International Court of Justice to halt it.
The genocide left approximately 185,000 Palestinians dead or wounded, most of them children and women, and more than 11,000 missing. Hundreds of thousands were displaced, and famine claimed the lives of many, including children, as well as widespread destruction.
