The embassy stated in a statement published on the X platform that the closure includes the consular sections in Jerusalem and Tel Aviv, noting that emergency and regular passport services, as well as consular reports for births abroad, will be suspended during the closure period.
The embassy explained that this measure comes in accordance with directives from the IDF's Home Front Command, which imposed a ban on gatherings and a requirement to remain close to shelters following the exchange of attacks with Iran.
For its part, the embassy confirmed that there have been no announcements of plans to assist American citizens in leaving at this time, despite reports of some Israelis attempting to leave the country due to escalating security tensions.
The embassy noted that the US Department of State is developing contingency plans to assist US citizens in crisis situations and will provide them with any additional information regarding evacuation options.
This announcement comes amid the ongoing US-backed Israeli aggression against Iran since last Friday, which has targeted nuclear facilities and missile bases, assassinating military leaders and nuclear scientists, resulting in the deaths of 224 people and the injury of 1,277 others. Iran responded with ballistic missiles and drones, killing 24 people and wounding hundreds more.
Fears are growing that the conflict could escalate, with Western and Israeli reports indicating the possibility of the United States joining Israel in its military operations against Iran. This comes at a time when US President Donald Trump has called on Tehran to surrender unconditionally and threatened to target Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.
