Tom Lembong responds to Enggartiasto's name appearing in sugar corruption case

Minister of Trade for the 2015-2016 period Thomas Trikasih Lembong responded to the emergence of the name of Minister of Trade for the 2016-2019 period Enggartiasto Lukita in the trial of the alleged corruption case of sugar imports at the Ministry of Trade (Kemendag) in 2015-2016.

According to him, the sugar import activities carried out by him and Enggartiasto have been going on for years, even before both of them served as Minister of Trade.

"This policy has also continued after our term of office has ended, until now," said Tom Lembong, when asked while waiting for the start of the trial of the alleged sugar import corruption case at the Jakarta Corruption Court (Tipikor), Thursday.

Therefore, he considered that sugar imports are a routine policy and have been regulated in such a way according to the provisions because they reflect power, industry, and sector.

Enggartiasto's name appeared in the indictment of the alleged corruption case of sugar imports which implicated nine top officials of private sugar companies as defendants.

This case is the same as the Tom Lembong case, but with separate case files (splitting), so it was tried separately.

The nine high-ranking officials in question are the President Director of PT Angels Products Tony Wijaya Ng, the Director of PT Makassar Tene Then Surianto Eka Prasetyo, the President Director of PT Sentra Usahatama Jaya Hansen Setiawan, the President Director of PT Medan Sugar Industry Indra Suryaningrat, and the President Director of PT Permata Dunia Sukses Utama Eka Sapanca.
