Tottenham are reportedly set to have a new defender after agreeing to sign Japanese national team player Kota Takai.According to Fabrizio Romano's report on Tuesday, Takai was brought in from J League club Kawasaki Frontale for 5 million euros. This transfer also makes Takai the most expensive Japanese player brought in from the J League. The 20-year-old center-back is expected to arrive at the club next month and will be part of Thomas Frank's first-team squad.Takai has twice played for Japan's senior team, making his international debut in a World Cup qualifier against China last September. He played a key role in Kawasaki Frontale's victory in the Japanese Super Cup in 2024 and was named the country's best young player that year.Takai will compete for a role at Tottenham alongside fellow center-backs Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven, Kevin Danso, and Radu Dragusin.
