Turkish Foreign Ministry spokesman Öncü Kıçeli said in a statement on the results of the EU leaders' summit that the results adopted at the summit held on June 26, 2025, " show that Greece and the Greek Cypriot administration continue their efforts to impose their extremist demands, which violate international law and the principle of justice, on the European Union."
The statement added that the memorandum of understanding signed in 2019 between Turkey and Libya regarding the delimitation of maritime jurisdiction areas in the Mediterranean "is an agreement fully consistent with international law and indicates that our country will never allow its legitimate rights and interests to be violated."
The Turkish Foreign Ministry spokesperson stressed that the European Union's biased and politically motivated statements on a sensitive issue with legal and technical dimensions, such as the demarcation of maritime borders, "do not serve regional peace and stability."
The statement added that the European Union should call on all its members to adhere to international law, "rather than adopting claims that have no legal basis."
Kıçeli stressed that Turkey "will continue to firmly defend its legitimate rights and interests in the Eastern Mediterranean within the framework of international law."
