CNN reported, citing a US police source, that approximately 60 people were arrested during a protest near the Capitol building in Washington.
"A group of approximately 60 people were arrested near the Capitol building Friday evening after breaching a police barrier of bike racks," the channel said.
It was reported that approximately 75 people protested outside the Supreme Court building, but as they were about to leave, police erected a fence around the building with bicycle barriers to prevent protesters from reaching the Capitol.
Police said all those arrested will be charged with unlawful demonstration and crossing a police checkpoint.
A security source told CNN that the protesters were part of a group of veterans who were protesting against fascism.
On June 7, riots erupted in Los Angeles over raids on undocumented immigrants. Clashes with protesters occurred amid reports of potential cuts in federal funding to California. Police began using tear gas and stun grenades against the protesters. The National Guard was dispatched to the city, and California authorities and Democratic Party representatives spoke out against the decision. This was the first time in decades that a US president had called up the National Guard without a state's request or approval.
Protesters in Los Angeles began erecting barricades and causing riots. A curfew was imposed in several areas of the city, and police began making mass arrests of violators. Mass protests also began in other states, including Texas, Washington, and New York.
For his part, President Donald Trump expressed his belief that these protests were being financed by certain parties. Attorney General Pam Bondi threatened to take strict action against rioting and looting.
