Usyk's team denies rumours of conflict behind split with promoter

World heavyweight boxing champion Oleksandr Usyk's team has confirmed that there is no conflict behind the end of cooperation with his long-time promoter, Alex Krassyuk, ahead of his rematch against Daniel Dubois at Wembley Stadium, London, on July 19.

Usyk's team leader and Ready To Fight CEO Sergey Lapin stressed that the decision was taken professionally.

"This is a natural stage that many great athletes go through. Like Floyd Mayweather, Oscar De La Hoya, Manny Pacquiao, and Canelo Alvarez, Usyk is now building his own path," Lapin said.

Lapin said the decision was taken because Usyk already has a professional team that handles various aspects, from training to brand development. "He and Krassyuk parted ways amicably, with each realizing that each will go their own way," he added.

Krassyuk, who heads K2 Promotions, has been Usyk's promoter since the start of his professional career in 2013, after the Ukrainian boxer won gold at the 2012 London Olympics.
