An Israeli military source told the Hebrew newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth that the officer and soldier were killed by an explosive device attached to an armored personnel carrier. Sources told the newspaper that "the number of army casualties does not include Israelis killed while carrying out engineering work in the Gaza Strip."
The newspaper quoted sources in the Israeli army as saying that the number of soldiers who have been injured or suffered from psychological illnesses has exceeded 18,500 since the beginning of the war on Gaza.
Military sources confirmed to the newspaper that "Khan Yunis has become, in recent days, the epicenter of fierce fighting between the Israeli army and the Palestinian resistance."
On Saturday, the Qassam Brigades, the military wing of Hamas, announced that it had targeted two Israeli armored personnel carriers with explosive devices inside their cockpits. After the vehicles caught fire, a third vehicle was targeted with a Yasin 105 missile in Abasan al-Kabira, Khan Yunis, in the southern Gaza Strip.
