Commission XII of the Indonesian House of Representatives has affirmed its support for the restructuring of the national mining sector aimed at encouraging inclusive and value-added economic growth.
"Commission XII of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) continues to oversee the mining management agenda so that it not only becomes a source of foreign exchange but also becomes a locomotive for fair, inclusive, and sustainable economic growth," said Chairman of Commission XII of the DPR RI, Bambang Patijaya, in a statement received in Jakarta on Friday.
He assessed that steps such as the revocation of more than 2,000 inactive or problematic mining permits were a concrete form of restructuring the sector.
However, he reminded that good planning must also pay attention to social and ecological aspects.
He also assessed that a number of regulations issued by the government demonstrate a commitment to improving the governance of the mining sector as a whole, including reforming regional authorities, which is one of the cornerstones of change.
"Law Number 23 of 2014 removed the authority of regents in mining matters, which was then followed by Law Number 1 of 2020, which also revoked the authority of governors," he said.
He then said, "Now, Law Number 2 of 2025 opens up wider space for participation, including for MSMEs, cooperatives, and universities."
