Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs Budi Gunawan said that the figure of Dr. Marwan al-Sultan as Director of the Indonesian Hospital in Gaza is an ideal example of a humanitarian fighter.
"The deceased was an exemplary figure, a doctor, leader, and humanitarian fighter," said Budi Gunawan in an official press release received by ANTARA in Jakarta, Friday.
According to Budi Gunawan, this predicate is worthy of being given to Marwan because of his great dedication in carrying out the humanitarian mission in Gaza.
The man who is familiarly called BG also believes that what Marwan has done so far should be an example for humanitarian fighters who are currently still serving in Gaza.
"His courage and dedication are clear evidence that humanitarian values transcend national boundaries, religions and conflicts," said BG.
"We express our highest appreciation for the deceased's services and dedication. He did not only belong to Gaza, but also to the world, a son of the nation who chose the path of devotion in a quiet but meaningful field," added Budi.
The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Kemlu) had previously expressed Indonesia's condolences for the death of Dr. Marwan, as well as strong condemnation of the Israeli attack that killed him.
"Indonesia appreciates Dr. Marwan's services, commitment, and struggle for humanity and for peace in Palestine," according to a written statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, monitored on Thursday.
