DPR Legislation Body: Hajj Bill likely to be brought to plenary session in early August

Deputy Chairman of the Legislative Body of the House of Representatives , Ahmad Iman Sukri, estimates that the Hajj Bill will likely be brought to a first-level plenary session no later than early August 2025.

"The harmonization of the bill has been completed, now it's just waiting for the Deliberative Council (Bamus)," said Iman when met after the launch of the PKB EcoGen in Jakarta, Saturday.

After being brought to the first level plenary session as a DPR initiative, he explained that the next process was to wait for the presidential letter (surpres).

Then, it was added that the Problem Inventory List (DIM) of the bill would also be discussed by the government.

Iman emphasized that the Hajj Bill is not an ordinary regulation, but rather a very important bill because preparations for the Hajj pilgrimage take one year.

"Therefore, we want it to be finished by early August at the latest. Hopefully, it can be finished by July," he said.

He revealed that there are several crucial points in the Hajj Bill, namely handing over the authority for the Hajj to the Hajj and Umrah Agency, as per the presidential regulation (perpres) issued by President Prabowo Subianto.

Prabowo, he said, wants the new body to handle the Hajj and Umrah affairs so that various Hajj problems, which occur almost every year, such as transportation, food, health, and so on, will not recur.

Previously, Indonesian Presidential Spokesperson and Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi stated that the future Hajj and Umrah will be entirely managed by the Hajj Organizing Agency (BP), and at the same time, the government is also waiting for the Hajj Bill to be discussed in the DPR.

Answering journalists' questions when he was met on the sidelines of his activities at the Indonesian Presidential Palace, Prasetyo explained that the government needs to wait for the results of the discussion of the Hajj Bill so that there are comprehensive regulations governing the implementation of the Hajj.

"We do have plans to establish the Hajj Organizing Agency (Bandung Hajj) by having the Hajj organization handled by the BAH.
