Deputy Chairman of Commission III of the Indonesian House of Representatives Ahmad Sahroni encouraged the National Police to increase digital patrols to eradicate the existence of deviant community groups on social media.
Sahroni conveyed this in his statement in Jakarta, Tuesday, following the successful uncovering of a gay community on social media by the Lampung Police.
He said that such groups on social media were very disturbing because they could influence many groups, including young people.
"I also see that the community continues to grow lately and this is very dangerous. Previously there was a blood community, now gay. That's what was only discovered on Facebook, not on other applications and social media such as X, Telegram, dating apps, and others," he said.
Therefore, he supports the Police's firm steps in eradicating perpetrators of sexual deviations who join social media and asks the police to increase digital patrols.
"I ask the police to really increase their digital patrols. This is scary, terrifying, and very dangerous for our children," he said.
Sahroni as the deputy chairman of the Indonesian House of Representatives commission in charge of legal, human rights, and security affairs also reminded that this is not the first time a similar phenomenon has occurred. Moreover, this phenomenon has been proven to have a negative impact on public health.
"We see from the previous case, when the authorities dismantled a sexual deviant party in the Puncak area, Bogor. The results of the examination showed that many of the participants were HIV and syphilis positive. So, this is no longer just a matter of personal preference, but a matter of collective responsibility for public health," he said.
It is known that on Monday (7/7), the Lampung Police announced that they had succeeded in securing three people consisting of one admin and two members of the Lampung gay Facebook group who had been disturbing the community.
"The three people we have secured are suspected of committing crimes under the Electronic Information and Transactions Law (ITE) and pornography through social media groups," said Lampung Police Director of Special Crimes, Senior Commissioner Dery Agung Wijaya.
