In an official statement, Kallas said that the agreed-upon measures will be implemented in the coming days and include a significant increase in the number of daily trucks loaded with food and non-food items allowed into the Strip.
The European official added that there is a shared understanding on the need to deliver aid directly to the Palestinians, while "emphasizing continued efforts to ensure it is not diverted to Hamas," she said.
The agreement also includes the opening of additional crossings in northern and southern Gaza, the resumption of aid deliveries from Jordan and Egypt, and the distribution of food supplies through bakeries and public kitchens across the Strip. The agreement also includes the resumption of fuel deliveries to humanitarian facilities.
Kallas noted that the agreed-upon steps also include protecting aid workers and rehabilitating vital infrastructure, such as restoring electricity supplies to Gaza's desalination plant.
She stressed that the European Union stands ready to coordinate with UN agencies, NGOs, and humanitarian actors on the ground to ensure the rapid and effective implementation of these measures.
She also renewed her call for an immediate ceasefire and the release of all remaining Israeli detainees, praising the mediation efforts of Egypt, Qatar, and the United States.
Since Sunday, indirect negotiations have been underway in Qatar between Israel and Hamas, in a renewed attempt to reach a prisoner exchange and ceasefire agreement, mediated by Egypt and Qatar and supported by the United States.
Since October 7, 2023, Israel has been waging a war of genocide in Gaza, including killing, starvation, destruction, and forced displacement, ignoring all international calls and orders from the International Court of Justice to halt it.
The genocide, backed by the United States, left more than 195,000 Palestinians dead or wounded, most of them children and women, and more than 10,000 missing, in addition to hundreds of thousands of displaced persons and a famine that claimed the lives of many, including dozens of children.
