Grok team apologizes for chatbot's "horrible behavior" incident

The team behind Grok issued a rare apology and explanation for the incident that occurred after the chatbot, owned by X, displayed anti-Semitic and pro-Nazi rhetoric earlier this week.

In a statement posted on Grok's official X account on Friday (July 11) evening, the xAI team said, "we deeply apologize for the terrible behavior experienced by many people" and attributed the chatbot's poor response to a recent update that included "outdated code."

According to the statement, the code makes Grok “vulnerable to existing posts by user X, including when those posts contain extreme views.”
