According to multiple Hong Kong media reports, the National Security Department of the Hong Kong Police Force arrested the former secretary-general of Hong Kong Demosisto, Joshua Wong, who was in custody, on Friday (June 6), accusing him of violating the Hong Kong National Security Law by conspiring to collude with a foreign country or external forces to endanger national security.
Joshua Wong, who was sentenced to 56 months in prison for his role in the pro-democracy primary election, is currently serving his sentence in Stanley, Hong Kong, and is not expected to be released until January 2027. Hong Kong's National Security Police suddenly announced they had re-arrested Wong in prison and charged him with conspiracy to collude with a foreign country or external forces to endanger national security. He was brought to the West Kowloon Magistrates' Court that afternoon for appearance.
According to Hong Kong media reports on the court, the indictment alleges that Joshua Wong, along with exiled former Demosisto founding chairman Nathan Law and others, requested sanctions between July and November 2020, in violation of the National Security Law for conspiracy to collude with a foreign country or external forces to endanger national security. Due to further police investigations, the magistrate adjourned the case to August 8.
Joshua Wong appeared in court wearing a black shirt and looked in good spirits. The case ended in less than 3 minutes. He waved to the public gallery in the court as he left.
