Indonesia bagged six medals at the 2025 World Para Table Tennis Championships

The Indonesian team won six medals at the 2025 World Para Table Tennis Championships, including one gold, two silver, and four bronze medals, at the event held in Thailand from July 18–22, 2025.

According to Indonesian Para Table Tennis Coach Andre Gunaya, the results represent significant progress compared to the 2024 achievement, according to a written statement from the National Paralympic Committee of Indonesia.

Komet Akbar won the gold medal in the mixed doubles category (20th grade) with Russian athlete Olga Gorshkaleva. The silver medal went to Adyos Astan and Yayang Gunaya, men's doubles (8th grade).

Komet also contributed two of the four bronze medals, after competing in the men's singles class 10 and men's doubles class 18 pairing with Banyu Tri Mulyono.

Two other bronze medals were won by Banyu Tri in the men's singles class 8 and Muhammad Alfigo Dwi Putra in the men's doubles class 22 paired with South Korean athlete, Kim Bogyeom.

Andre said the achievement was a big surprise, especially when Adyos/Yayang eliminated the South Korean pair, the 2024 Paris Paralympics gold medalists Kim Jung-gil/Kim Young-gun, in the semifinals.

"This is an unexpected result," he said.

He said the achievements of the table tennis athletes would be a valuable asset for the 2026 Asian Para Games.

According to Andre, all athletes have a chance to compete in Nagoya, especially the men's doubles pairs in the 8th and 18th grades, because the competition is even. Indonesia also frequently wins in these events in singles championships.
