The Indonesian U-23 national team will meet the Vietnam U-23 national team again in the final of the 2025 ASEAN U-23 Championship which is scheduled to take place at the Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium, Senayan.
The match was undoubtedly filled with the scent of revenge for the Young Garuda for previous meetings against Vietnam, which had not ended in victory in the last seven matches.
At Rayong Provincial Stadium, Thailand, on August 26, 2023, Vietnam emerged as the champion of the 2023 ASEAN U-23 Championship through a penalty shootout 6-5 after the match of normal time and 2 x 15 minutes of extra time passed without a single goal.
Another meeting at the U-23 level between the two countries occurred in the group stage of the 2021 SEA Games. In the match, which took place on May 6, 2022, Vietnam crushed the Garuda Muda by three goals to nil.
The two teams also met in the final of the 2019 SEA Games. The match, which took place on December 10, 2019, was again won by Vietnam after the team, strengthened by Doan Van Hau et al., took turns breaking through the Indonesian goal three times, while the Garuda Muda were unable to reply with a single goal.
The U-23 national teams from both countries have met seven times in all competitions since 2015. Of those seven meetings, Indonesia has only managed one draw and six defeats.
