Block CEO and Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey said that he is developing a new messaging application called Bitchat that can be used without internet access.
According to a TechCrunch release on Bitchat is a messaging application that operates using a Bluetooth mesh network , allowing users to send messages without a Wi-Fi connection or cellular signal.
Due to the technical limitations of Bluetooth technology, such applications are usually only effective within a range of about 100 meters.
However, Dorsey claims Bitchat has a wider range, up to 300 meters, by utilizing message relay between users.
