Boxing Association (WBA) interim flyweight (50.8 kg) champion David Jimenez retained his title after scoring a knockout (KO) over Kenbun Torres in Bishkek, Kyrgyztan.
"Jimenez scored a KO in the 11th round when he landed a left hook to the chest, leaving Torres helpless," the WBA reported on the association's official website, which was monitored in Jakarta on Thursday.
Jimenez dominated the fight from the opening bell. Using an aggressive yet precise style, the Costa Rican boxer battered Torres with a steady combination of punches to the body and head.
The 33-year-old boxer displayed composure and intelligence in the ring throughout the match. Even after sustaining a cut on his right eyebrow in the eighth round, he maintained control and closed out the bout in dominant fashion.
"It's a blessing to be able to say good morning like this, with all our heart, determination and passion, showing who we are as Costa Ricans," Jimenez said after the fight.
