Kepri Ministry of Law and Human Rights: Penyengat Island has the potential to become an intellectual property-based tourism destination

The Riau Islands Regional Office of the Ministry of Law stated that Penyengat Island, located in Tanjungpinang City, has the potential to become an Intellectual Property (IP)-based tourist area.

"Penyengat Island, with its rich history and culture, has great potential to become an intellectual property-based tourism destination," said Bobby Briando, Head of the Intellectual Property Division of the Riau Islands Ministry of Law and Human Rights Regional Office, in Tanjungpinang on Sunday.

IP-based tourism areas are a flagship program of the Directorate General of Intellectual Property (DJKI) of the Ministry of Law of the Republic of Indonesia in 2025. One of the main focuses of DJKI is to provide recognition to IP-based areas that aim to optimize regional potential while supporting the growth of the creative economy.

Some of the intellectual property potentials that can be developed on Penyengat Island include the Gurindam Dua Belas script written by Raja Ali Haji, traditional traditions, and the island's unique craft and culinary products.

The Riau Islands Ministry of Law and Human Rights notes that Penyengat Island is a small island approximately 2 kilometers from the city center. It measures 2,000 meters long and 850 meters wide, approximately 35 kilometers from Batam Island.
