Lody and Sasty face tougher challenges at AXCR 2025

Indonesian racers Lody Natasha and Sasty Laksamana will once again compete in the 2025 Asia Cross Country Rally (AXCR) in Thailand, on August 8–16, with challenges that are much tougher than in previous years.

As an independent team, Lody and Sasty admitted their preparations this year were challenging. This was due not only to the longer route and more challenging terrain, but also to the lack of financial and logistical support.

"This year is very different. Previously, sponsorship was always secure, but now we have to fight on our own. We're going around presenting to seek support," said Lody Natasha at a press conference.

The 2025 AXCR will cover a route of 3,300 kilometers, an increase of almost 1,000 kilometers over last year. The duration of the event will also be increased from the usual seven to eight days.

This annual cross-country rally is known for its extreme terrain that crosses rivers, tropical forests and mountains, and is participated by professional teams from various countries, including factory teams with full technical and logistical support.

"We're an independent team. Other teams can spend Rp 7 to Rp 9 billion for three cars, mechanics, and complete logistics. We only have one car, use a regular car service, and even our mechanic is from Thailand," said Lody.

He estimates that his team's minimum needs this year will reach around IDR 400 million, not including unexpected costs during the rally.

Sasty Laksamana revealed that the increased distance made physical preparation a primary focus. He adjusted his training to maintain stamina and strength, especially given his crucial role as navigator, who also had to be prepared for challenging terrain.

"Last year, I covered 2,400 kilometers, now I've covered almost 3,300 kilometers. I'm focusing on physical training, including weightlifting, because I have to be ready to pull the winch if I get stuck in mud or on extreme inclines," said Sasty.

Not only that, the AXCR rally also implements a navigation system without prior route survey.

Participants only receive a roadbook (direction book) every morning before the start, demanding high concentration and discipline during the journey.

"We don't know the detailed route. So we have to be really disciplined and focused on reading the roadbook.
