This came during a joint press conference in London with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, as part of Macron's official visit to the United Kingdom.
The French president said, "Together, we called for a ceasefire in Gaza and the release of all prisoners," stressing that this was "an urgent matter to end the suffering of the prisoners and the people of Gaza."
Macron stressed that the continuation of the war without a horizon or strategy "poses a grave danger to the region and to our shared security," adding, "We must unite our voices in Paris, London, and elsewhere to recognize the State of Palestine and initiate this political dynamic."
He affirmed his belief in the two-state solution as "the possible basis for ensuring security in the region," noting that this solution "allows Israel to live in peace alongside its neighbors."
Since October 7, 2023, Israel, with full American support, has been committing genocide against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip. This has resulted in more than 195,000 deaths and injuries, most of them women and children, as well as more than 10,000 missing persons and hundreds of thousands displaced, amid a famine that has claimed the lives of many, including dozens of children.
