Meta has appointed Connor Hayes, previously Vice President of Product for Generative AI at the company, as the new head of social media platform Threads.
this decision was first reported. Previously, Threads was under the leadership of Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri.
However, as Threads grew rapidly, Meta decided to put in place a dedicated leader to strengthen the direction and strategy of the platform, which is now considered more than just an Instagram spin-off.
Threads, launched in 2023, has seen significant growth. According to data from market intelligence firm Similarweb, Threads now has an average of 115 million daily active mobile users, approaching its competitor platform, X, which has around 132 million daily active users. Meta has not yet officially commented on Connor's appointment.
According to an Economic Times report, before being appointed to lead Threads, Connor served for more than two years as VP of Product for generative AI technology at Meta. He also has a long track record, both at Meta and at Instagram early in his career, with over 14 years of experience in the tech industry.
Connor is a graduate of Rice University, Houston, Texas, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy.
