Hemenes Ballo, a member of the talent scouting team for the 2025 Menpora Cup Boxing National Selection (Seleknas), stated that the participants in the national boxing selection lack boxing skills due to their infrequent participation in competitions or championships.
"The participants in this national selection generally lack many skills because they haven't competed for too long," said Hemenes Ballo when confirmed in Jakarta on Wednesday.
The 2025 Menpora Cup National Boxing Selection held by the Deputy for Improving Sports Achievement at the Ministry of Youth and Sports took place from July 21 to 26, with 98 athletes from various regions in Indonesia participating.
The competition was held for two categories, namely men who competed in nine classes, namely 48 kilograms (kg), 51 kg, 54 kg, 57 kg, 60 kg, 63.5 kg, 69 kg, 75 kg, and 80 kg.
Meanwhile, in the women's category, there are eight classes played, namely 48 kg, 50 kg, 54 kg, 57 kg, 60 kg, 63 kg, 66 kg, and 70 kg.
Ballo explained that from the beginning of the national selection process, his team had found that the young athletes generally possessed a strong competitive mentality and a strong determination to win. Some athletes were also physically fit.
