Persebaya Surabaya took a 1-0 lead over PSS Sleman through Bruno Moreira's individual action in the 71st minute in a trial match titled "Team Launching Game" at Gelora Bung Tomo Stadium Surabaya.
At the start of the match, PSS Sleman immediately put pressure on Persebaya's defense, but a number of penetrations made by the visiting team's forwards did not produce results.
After coming under pressure, Persebaya responded with a quick counter-attack that troubled PSS Sleman's defense.
Persebaya's first chance came in the 18th minute after Malik Risaldi received a direct pass from Bruno Moreira, but the ball was still secured by PSS Sleman goalkeeper Fahri.
PSS Sleman then responded with a Persebaya opportunity in the 37th minute through a Gustavo Tocantins free kick. However, Persebaya goalkeeper Ernando Ari was quick to parry the ball, resulting in a corner.
Until the referee blew the whistle for half time, the score was still 0-0.
Entering the second half, Persebaya tried to launch an attack directly into the heart of the PSS Sleman defense. However, the efforts of Bruno, Rivera, Malik, and Gali Freitas were in vain.
PSS Sleman, nicknamed the Super Eagles of Java, had another golden opportunity in the 51st minute. Muhammad Junior Haqi, free in the penalty box, managed to launch a shot at Persebaya's goal, but Ernando was again able to catch Junior's shot.
Persebaya finally broke through PSS Sleman's goal in the 72nd minute through Bruno Moreira, who beat PSS goalkeeper Fahri and slotted the ball into the net. The score now stands at 1-0, with the home side in the lead.
After Bruno scored, a number of supporters inside the stadium immediately lit flares which turned the stadium red and sent smoke billowing.
However, the organizing committee immediately issued an appeal to turn off flares and directed child supporters and their parents to leave the stadium.
Due to unfavorable conditions, the match was temporarily stopped by the referee and match officials in the 72nd minute.
After a delay of around 17 minutes, the match finally resumed in the 75th minute and Eduardo Perez's team immediately launched an attack on the opponent's defense.
