Online gaming platform Roblox has launched a new feature called "age estimation" for teenage users aged 13 and above as an effort to better understand the age of its users and improve the security of online interactions.
As reported by Engadget on Friday, in this update, teenagers who want to access the new, freer chat feature called " trusted connections " will be asked to verify their age via a video selfie.
This age estimation process is carried out in collaboration with a third-party identity company, Persona. If users fail the process, they will be given the option to verify their age by uploading an ID.
After passing the verification process, either through a video selfie or an identity card, users will be able to use the trusted connections feature , which allows them to interact via group text chat ( party chat ) or voice chat without automatic filters.
This feature can only be accessed by users who are already in the contact list or by scanning the QR code of a friend they know and trust.
