The announcement of Biran's death comes just two days after the army announced the death of Reserve First Lieutenant Avraham Azoulay, who was working as an engineering vehicle operator, in a clash that also took place in Khan Yunis, according to the Israeli account.
The occupation's statement did not provide additional details about the circumstances of Biran's death or any other injuries sustained during the operation. Israel has continued to launch widespread attacks on the Gaza Strip since October 7, 2023, amid international accusations of committing genocide against the Palestinians.
According to the Hebrew newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth, Biran was killed during an operation carried out by the Golani Brigade to demolish buildings in Khan Yunis. An explosion occurred near one of the targeted buildings, resulting in his death.
She added: "Since the end of the last ceasefire in Gaza last March, 41 soldiers have been killed in the Strip, bringing the total number of deaths (from the army) since the beginning of the war to 890, including 448 during ground operations."
These figures are based on statistics compiled by Hebrew newspapers based on data issued by the Israeli Ministry of Defense and the army. Tel Aviv often does not reveal the true number of its war victims, citing "national security."
The Qassam Brigades, the military wing of Hamas, claimed responsibility for the killing of Abraham Azoulay on Wednesday, but has yet to comment on the Israeli military's statement regarding Biran's death.
The Qassam Brigades reported on Wednesday that Azoulay was killed after "field conditions prevented his capture."
On Thursday, the Qassam Brigades released a video showing its fighters observing Israeli vehicles as they were demolishing Palestinian homes and targeting them. The video then shows a soldier fleeing his vehicle before being shot at close range. His weapon was then seized after he was killed.
The footage broadcast by the Qassam Brigades contradicts the account given by Israeli military spokesman Avichay Adraee, who claimed on Wednesday that the soldier "clashed" with Hamas members during an attempt to kidnap him while he was operating an engineering vehicle, before being killed.
With American support, Israel has been committing genocide in Gaza since October 7, 2023, including killing, starvation, destruction, and forced displacement, ignoring all international calls and orders from the International Court of Justice to halt it.
The genocide left more than 195,000 Palestinians dead and wounded, most of them children and women, and more than 11,000 missing. Hundreds of thousands were displaced, and famine claimed the lives of many, including dozens of children.
