Torture and starvation in prison cells.. Prisoners Club: Broken ribs, electric shocks, and starvation of prisoners

The club explained in a report based on dozens of field visits conducted by its lawyers during the first half of July that the occupation authorities continue to commit "documented crimes" against more than 10,800 Palestinian prisoners and detainees, including women and children.

The testimonies documented "violent assaults" that included broken ribs, firing rubber bullets at the extremities, extinguishing cigarettes on prisoners' bodies, and electrocution. In addition, prisoners were denied food and medical care, leading to an outbreak of scabies, particularly among children in Megiddo Prison.

The report noted that children with scabies at Megiddo Prison are no longer able to close their hands due to the boils, and are experiencing difficulty moving and sleeping. The prison administration deliberately leaves the disease untreated as an "additional tool of torture."

At Ofer Prison in the West Bank, testimonies documented prisoners losing significant weight as a result of hunger and disease, causing severe fatigue and dizziness.

According to the report, the Negev prison witnessed raids, the use of rubber bullets, and sexual assaults. Prisoners at Gilboa Prison confirmed the use of electric shocks, tear gas, and batons in the assaults, while the violations at Ganot Prison focused on beatings and verbal abuse.

The Prisoners' Club noted that International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) staff are still prevented from visiting prisoners, and that strict restrictions are imposed on lawyers' visits, including assaults on prisoners while transporting them to visiting rooms.

The club called on the international human rights community to take urgent action to hold the occupation accountable and impose sanctions that would end the "immunity from accountability" enjoyed by Israeli leaders.

The number of Palestinian detainees currently stands at 10,800, including 50 female prisoners, more than 450 children, and 3,629 administrative detainees, in addition to 2,454 detainees from Gaza, whom the occupation classifies as "illegal combatants."

The escalation against prisoners coincides with Israel's ongoing genocide in Gaza since October 7, 2023. This massacre has left more than 200,000 dead and wounded, most of them children and women, and more than 9,000 missing. Hundreds of thousands have been displaced, and a famine has claimed the lives of many.

In the West Bank, including occupied Jerusalem, the Israeli army and settlers escalated their attacks, killing more than 1,000 Palestinians and wounding nearly 7,000 others.
