258 martyrs due to starvation in Gaza, and an American nurse: Malnutrition is hitting medical staff.

The ministry reported in its daily statistical statement that the death toll from Israel's ongoing genocidal war, which has been ongoing for 22 months, has risen to "61,944 martyrs and 155,886 wounded."

She said that hospitals in the Gaza Strip received "47 martyrs (including 9 recovered bodies) and 226 injuries" during the past 24 hours due to the ongoing Israeli attacks. She explained that the death toll among those waiting for aid has risen since May 27 to "1,938 martyrs and more than 14,420 injuries," after 14 Palestinians were martyred and 132 others were injured during the past 24 hours.

In this context, the Ministry stated that the death toll of Palestinian victims since Israel resumed its genocide on March 18 has risen to "10,400 martyrs and 43,845 injuries." It also explained that hospitals in the Gaza Strip recorded seven deaths in the past 24 hours, including two children, as a result of starvation and malnutrition, bringing the total number since October 7, 2023, to 258 deaths, including 110 children.

The ministry noted that a number of victims were buried under the rubble of destroyed homes and on the streets, as ambulance and civil defense crews were unable to reach them due to a lack of equipment or because they were located in areas where the Israeli army was intensifying its military operations.

"A new wave of genocide"

For its part, the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) said on Sunday that Israel's new plans to transfer residents of Gaza City constitute "a new wave of brutal genocide and criminal displacement operations" against hundreds of thousands of Gaza City residents and internally displaced persons.

Hamas added in a statement, "Talk about bringing tents into the southern Gaza Strip under the guise of humanitarian arrangements is a blatant deception intended to cover up a brutal crime that the occupation is preparing to commit." It continued, "The steps and attempts by Netanyahu and his government to displace our people and uproot them from their land are accompanied by a clear revelation of his true intentions to establish what is called Greater Israel."

In a related development, Palestinian-American nurse Amanda Nasser reported on the tragic health situation in the Gaza Strip, stressing that the effects of malnutrition and starvation are now evident among medical staff.

Amanda, who works on a humanitarian medical mission at Nasser Medical Complex in Khan Younis, described her experience as "very moving," noting that "the situation is catastrophic, and the healthcare system is on the verge of collapse in the last functioning hospital in the southern Gaza Strip." She said, "Medical capabilities are extremely limited, while the medical staff lives under tremendous pressure and constant fear due to the ongoing Israeli airstrikes." She noted that the large number of daily injuries is overwhelming the medical teams.

“Most of the injuries arriving at the hospital are serious and horrific, including gunshot wounds to the head, chest, abdomen, pelvis, and extremities, as well as fractures and severe injuries to the extremities,” she added. “The cases arriving at the hospital are extremely serious, and we receive a large number of young people in particular, ranging in age from teenagers to 20 years old,” she noted, noting that “most of these people do not survive due to the severity of their injuries.”

Amanda said that doctors "are forced to perform amputations and major surgeries, while a shortage of medical staff and supplies deprives others of treatment." She noted that the hospital's resources and capabilities are limited due to the Israeli blockade. "Sometimes we have to choose between who deserves artificial respiration and whether they can survive. The decision is crucial and extremely difficult."

She spoke about the "exacerbated suffering of patients and medical staff due to the widespread famine in the Gaza Strip resulting from the Israeli blockade," saying, "Malnutrition is evident in patients and even in the medical staff themselves." She added, "Everyone is extremely thin and dehydrated, and they are working long hours." She noted that she had witnessed the deaths of infants inside the hospital due to malnutrition.

With American support, Israel has been committing genocide in Gaza since October 7, 2023, including killing, starvation, destruction, and forced displacement, ignoring all international calls and orders from the International Court of Justice to halt it.

The Israeli genocide left 61,897 Palestinians dead and 155,660 injured, most of them children and women. More than 9,000 people were missing, hundreds of thousands were displaced, and a famine claimed the lives of 251 people, including 108 children.
