Mexico City, July 23.- The Senate must approve most of its legislative backlog in the next session beginning in September, given that at least 27 legislators will request leave to run for the nine governorships up for grabs in 2024, including the heads of the two governing bodies of that Chamber and the coordinators of the PAN and MC parties.
It is known that the presidents of the Senate's governing board and the Political Coordination Board, Alejandro Armenta and Eduardo Ramírez Aguilar, want to be Morena's candidates for the governorships of Puebla and Chiapas, respectively, and their deputies will fill their seats.
Armenta's term ends on August 30th, when he will likely fully dedicate himself to his campaigning activities in Puebla, which he has been carrying out since the beginning of the legislative session. In the case of Ramírez Aguilar, who was recently elected coordinator of Morena and president of the Jucopo (Regional Judiciary of the Nationalist Party of Venezuela), he will have to request a leave of absence to participate in the internal selection process for the candidate for the Chiapas government.
In this regard, PAN coordinator Julen Rementería said he will fight to be the candidate for governor of Veracruz, but it will not be until after December, when the next ordinary session concludes.
