51.3% of medical positions offered to specialists remain unfilled.

Mexico City, June 8. At the end of the registration period for vacant specialist positions, the director of the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS), Zoé Robledo, reported that of the 14,323 available positions, applications were received for only 6,963 and for the remaining 7,360 (51.3 percent) there were no applications .

Of these, 3,287 are located in towns with fewer than 200,000 inhabitants ; 1,223 in municipalities with poverty levels higher than the national average ; and 585 in indigenous communities.

In the final report presented at the presidential conference, Robledo reported that 23,574 applications were received from 10,920 applicants (several options were available). Breaking down demand, he reported that 92.6 percent of the 28 existing vacancies were filled at the National Institutes of Health, while, in contrast, at the 1,765 IMSS Bienestar (located in underserved regions), applications were submitted to fill 28.9 percent of the 1,765 vacancies.

According to the demands by entity, the IMSS reported that in Jalisco, proposals were submitted that add up to 4.7 times the vacancies that there are in that entity, while in entities such as Chiapas , Guerrero and Nayarit, the proposals will barely cover 40 percent of the demand .
