550 Mexicans detained in Los Angeles have been living in the US for almost a decade

Tijuana, August 14.- The Mexican Consul General in Los Angeles, Carlos González Gutiérrez, presented a demographic analysis of 550 Mexican citizens detained by U.S. immigration authorities since the start of the operations on June 6. The analysis revealed that the average length of stay among those interviewed in the United States is 8.6 years.

Consular statistics, updated as of August 6, show that 95 individuals, or 17.3% of the total, have already been deported, while 199 individuals (36.2%) have children born in the United States. The data reveal prolonged residence in the country, with 267 individuals (49%) having lived in the United States for more than 10 years, 153 individuals (28%) having resided between 16 and 25 years, and five individuals who have resided for more than 45 years.

The occupational profile of those arrested indicates their concentration in service and labor sectors. Construction tops the list with 73 workers (13.3%), followed by car washes with 67 employees (12.2%), gardening with 51 workers (9.3%), agriculture with 49 employees (8.9%), light manufacturing with 47 workers (8.5%), and daily labor with 38 day laborers (6.9%).

Regarding the places of arrest, 205 people (36%) were captured in public spaces, 37 individuals at their workplaces, and an additional 196 people complete the statistics. Consular data indicates that 86% of those arrested were men, frequently captured in places where employers have less capacity to intervene, such as car wash parking lots or construction sites.
