"A Dangerous Starvation Policy"... The Cooperation Council demands the opening of Gaza crossings and holding Israel accountable after the famine declaration

GCC Secretary-General Jassim Mohammed Al-Budaiwi said in a statement that "the declaration of a state of famine clearly reflects the inhumane and illegal starvation policies practiced by the occupation forces against the Palestinians," stressing "the need for international pressure to open the crossings and allow the unconditional entry of aid."

He pointed out that the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) declaration of a famine in Gaza City "clearly reflects the dangerous, inhumane, and illegal starvation policies pursued by the Israeli occupation forces against the Palestinian people."

The Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) is an international initiative to analyze food security and nutrition situations, comprising 21 leading organizations, including the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the World Food Programme (WFP), the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), the World Health Organization (WHO), Oxfam, and Save the Children.

Al-Badawi affirmed the GCC states' unwavering support for the Palestinian people, calling for "providing international protection for them, refraining from targeting them, and fully adhering to international law, international humanitarian law, and relevant Security Council resolutions without exception."

For its part, the Kuwaiti Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed "grave concern" over the UN report, stressing that Gaza's entry into a famine "reveals the enormity of Israel's starvation and displacement policies, in flagrant violation of international and humanitarian law."

According to data from the Ministry of Health in Gaza, more than one million children are suffering from food deprivation, including 40,000 infants who are at risk of starvation. Meanwhile, the population of the Gaza Strip requires a minimum of 600 aid trucks daily to meet its basic needs.

Since March 2, Israel has evaded further implementation of a ceasefire and prisoner exchange agreement with Hamas, closing Gaza's crossings to aid trucks stacked along the border.

Despite the backlog of aid trucks at the entrances to the Gaza Strip, Israel continues to prevent their entry or control their distribution outside UN supervision, and in extremely meager quantities that "are barely a drop in the ocean," according to UN and international reports.

Since October 7, 2023, Israel, with American support, has been committing genocide in Gaza, including killing, starvation, destruction, and displacement, ignoring international calls and orders from the International Court of Justice to halt it.
