Carlos Alcaraz won his sixth title of the season at the Cincinnati Open after his arch-rival, Jannik Sinner, was forced to retire just 23 minutes into the title match.
Looking less than his best in the blazing sun, defending champion Sinner requested a medical timeout after losing a 0-5 lead in the opening set, but was unable to continue.
With his 22nd tour-level trophy, Alcaraz also strengthened his hopes of capturing the year-end ATP No. 1 title, an award he last won in 2022. He now holds a 1,890-point lead over Sinner in the ATP Live Race To Turin.
