Sinner apologizes to fans after leaving Cincinnati

Jannik Sinner appeared dejected as he apologized to fans at the Cincinnati Open after only managing to get through five games in the final against Carlos Alcaraz before finally deciding to withdraw.

Ever since Sinner was broken two points in the opening game, it seemed something was wrong with the world number one. Sinner, who celebrated his 24th birthday on Friday (August 15) with a semifinal victory over Frenchman Terence Atmane, said he started feeling unwell on Sunday (August 17).

"I'm very, very sorry to disappoint you guys but since yesterday I've been feeling unwell," Sinner told fans at the trophy ceremony, as broadcast by the ATP.
