As a festive and harmonious fusion, as a celebration to captivate ears and palates, as a unique gathering in Mexico to build community, comes the first edition of PortAmérica Latitudes México , which combines international offerings from Mexican, Spanish, and Latin American cuisine with renowned musical projects.
To be held on November 12th at the Plaza del Bicentenario in Guadalajara , the event inspired by PortAmérica España will have its first edition in the country in the context of the International Music Fair (FIM GDL) and Esmerarte Creative Industries.
For Igor Lozada Rivera Melo, general coordinator of Cultural Outreach and Diffusion at the University of Guadalajara, this activity represents an opportunity to demonstrate that music and gastronomy "have a great capacity to communicate ideas regardless of culture." Both, he asserted, are valuable expressions for promoting social transformation and improving our lives.
Among the novelties of PortAmérica Latitudes México is the gathering of 12 international chefs at the Showrocking, a space dedicated to bringing professional gastronomy to the general public. Six Mexican chefs, three Spanish chefs, and three Latin American chefs will be present. Among them is Spaniard Pepe Solla, recipient of a Michelin star and three Repsol Suns. Solla spoke about the situation of Spanish haute cuisine in 2012, which at the time seemed to be distancing itself from society. “We were cooking for the elite, and nothing could be further from the truth… Reaching out to the public was one of the most important things we had to do.” That situation propelled PortAmérica España, and now PortAmérica Latitudes México, to something “totally different from any other festival,” stated the head chef and owner of the Casa Solla restaurant.
