Bahdi and Gutierrez meet for a WBA lightweight eliminator

Boxers Lucas Bahdi and Roger Gutierrez will meet in the ring on August 23 in Orlando, United States, for an elimination match for the World Boxing Association (WBA) lightweight (61.2 kg) world title.

"This fight has major implications for both fighters, as a win would bring them closer to a world title shot," the WBA said in a statement on the association's official website, as monitored in Jakarta on Wednesday.

Bahdi of Canada is ranked fifth in the WBA lightweight division and is in the best form of his career.

The 31-year-old has won three straight against previously undefeated opponents, which has brought him to a crucial elimination round.

Bahdi will challenge Guiterrez with an undefeated record of 19 wins, with 15 of those wins coming by knockout (KO), which has boosted his KO rating to 78.9 percent.

Meanwhile, the 31-year-old Guiterrez will come with a strong determination to seize the opportunity to fight for the world title currently held by Gervonta Davis.

The former super featherweight world champion is riding a two-fight winning streak. The 30-year-old will rely on his experience and proven track record.

For Gutierrez, who is ranked eighth by the WBA, victory next Saturday is a must to mark his return to the elite level of boxing.

The Venezuelan puncher will bring veteran records to the ring with 29 wins, 6 losses, and 1 draw. He has scored 22 wins by stoppage (KO).

The WBA added the high-stakes bout as both fighters look to prove who is the strongest to be part of an event promoted by MVP Promotions.
