BC reactivates its State Anti-Corruption System

Mexicali, March 27.- After being sidelined throughout Jaime Bonilla's administration, Baja California's State Anti-Corruption System will return to institutional activity thanks to a reform proposed by Governor Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda to combat corruption and impunity.

In 2020, the Ministry of Public Administration and the Bonillo legislature decided to "freeze" this citizen body after requesting information about alleged acts of corruption by that administration, which got off to a bad start due to "kickbacks" for government contracts involving former Chief Officers, Secretaries General of Government and Welfare, as well as the transfer of public notaries.

On March 12, 2022, the initiative was presented to the State Congress after considering a 2020 ruling by the Supreme Court of Justice.

The changes involve reducing the number of citizens participating in the SEABC to five, from the original 15 who began activities in 2018.
