CEDHBC urges the State to respect the human rights of migrants

Tijuana, December 19.- The president of the Baja California State Human Rights Commission (Cedhbc), Miguel Mora, called on the state government to strengthen care for migrants with a protocol based on human rights.

The Baja California Ombudsman noted that the state's migrant assistance strategy should include the following considerations:

  • Incorporate institutions, in a coordinated manner, to reduce conditions of vulnerability and promote better coexistence with society.
  • In terms of public safety, all three levels of government must guarantee respect for the human rights of people in the context of mobility.
  • Implement training programs for the personnel of the various police forces to provide adequate care to migrants.
  • Include the Civil Registry authorities to ensure the correct processing of their registration acts
  • Seek cooperation between prosecutors' offices in other states to ensure the admission of complaints and the timely follow-up of investigation files on the events reported by victims of internal forced displacement.
  • Promote collaboration between institutions and the private sector to provide employment for migrants

Baja California, a destination for people on the move

In the context of International Migrants Day, Miguel Mora indicated that Baja California has a more specific migration context than other regions of the country, since, due to its proximity to the United States, the state has historically been a direct and indirect destination for populations in the context of mobility.
