Mexico, August 19, 2022.- The arrest of José Bernabé Brizuela , La Vac a , leader of the Independent Cartel of Colima , "represents a resounding blow to organized crime," said the Ministry of National Defense ( Sedena ), after the criminal leader was apprehended in Mexico City in an operation coordinated with the capital authorities.
La Vaca is identified by federal government intelligence agencies as a former member of the Jalisco Nueva Generación Cartel (CJNG) who formed his own organization and is considered "the main generator of violence " in the state of Colima .
According to information provided by the Sedena (National Security Forces), José Bernabé Brizuela was arrested in flagrante delicto in the Anzures neighborhood of Mexico City, "as a result of intelligence work, inter-institutional coordination, and operational planning."
Mexican Army and National Guard personnel participated in this operation yesterday, in coordination with members of the Ministry of Citizen Security and the Mexico City Attorney General's Office.
