Tijuana, August 29.- The Ensenada Center for Scientific Research and Higher Education reported that it received a request from one of the parties involved in the El Sauzal port expansion project to prepare an Environmental Impact Statement, a document required by law.
In response to this request, CICESE submitted a proposal to coordinate the necessary studies. However, the center clarified that the proposal is currently being reviewed by other bodies and that it is currently unaware whether it will be accepted.
"It has not formalized any agreement and therefore has not initiated the corresponding studies," the institution stated in the statement signed by its general director, David Covarrubias Rosales.
CICESE explained that the classification of its proposal in the "reserved" category was implemented as a legally justified action, because it is an ongoing procedure for which the center "is neither the responsible entity nor the promoter."
