Tijuana, April 30. The Baja California State Electoral Institute notified the City Council that it must remove the electoral propaganda billboards of Tijuana mayoral candidates Ismael Burgueño Ruiz (Morena, PVEM, and Fuerza por México) and Miguel Ángel Badiola Montaño (Encuentro Solidario Party), as well as PES deputy candidate Edna Mireya Pérez Corona.
The City Council reported that it was notified Tuesday morning that the advertisement must be removed. The decision was made by the electoral body on April 27.
"The Baja California State Electoral Institute (IEEBC) sent two requests to the City Council to remove the billboards of candidates Ismael Burgueño, representing Morena, the Green Party, and Fuerza por México, as well as Miguel Ángel Badiola and Edna Mireya Pérez Corona, representing the Encuentro Solidario Party," the agency stated in a press release.
He indicated that the document was received on April 29; "All such propaganda is requested to be removed within the next 48 hours, and this agency is notified of the completion of this action within 24 hours," he explained.
He said Mayor Montserrat Caballero Ramírez had indicated that they would respect official processes and would remove advertising until a request from the appropriate body was received.
Just on Monday, activist Viridiana Román, of the organization CeMujer, confronted Mayor Montserrat Caballero Ramírez to demand that she had not removed the advertisement, to which the mayor replied that she had not been notified.
"I understand that this group of citizens' complaint is because I haven't removed the advertisement, but I'm not the one who's in charge," she said in a press release.
Caballero Ramírez noted in the bulletin that since these are legal arguments, there must be a legal basis: "In this case, if I have an instruction from an administrative authority, I will comply, but if I don't, I can't do anything. There are also PES billboards, not just Morena's."
