This came during a meeting between Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly and his Qatari counterpart, Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, who began an official visit to Egypt to discuss bilateral relations and regional issues, according to a statement issued by the Egyptian Cabinet.
The statement explained that the meeting, held in the New Alamein City, emphasized the importance of coordinating efforts with the United States to reach an agreement that ensures an immediate cessation of military operations in Gaza.
Cairo is seeking to implement a plan approved by the Arab League and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation last March to rebuild Gaza at an estimated cost of $53 billion over five years, without any displacement of Palestinians. This plan has been rejected by both Israel and the United States, who are clinging to US President Donald Trump's plan to displace Gaza's residents to neighboring countries.

On August 18, Hamas announced its acceptance of a mediation proposal without revealing its details. The Israeli Broadcasting Authority reported that the proposal was "very similar" to the plan of US envoy Steve Witkoff, and included the release of prisoners and bodies in exchange for a 60-day truce and negotiations to end the war.
But Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ignored the proposal and, on August 20, announced directives to accelerate the plan to occupy Gaza City, amid international warnings of the dangers of destroying the Strip and increasing Palestinian suffering and displacement.
With American support, Israel has been committing genocide in Gaza since October 7, 2023, leaving 62,966 Palestinians dead, 159,266 injured, most of them children and women, more than 9,000 missing, hundreds of thousands displaced, and a famine that has killed 317 Palestinians, including 121 children.
