El País says that Yasmín Esquivel also plagiarized her doctoral thesis.

Supreme Court Justice Yasmín Esquivel plagiarized the thesis with which she earned her doctorate in law from Anáhuac University in 2009, according to information published by the Madrid-based newspaper El País, which is part of a business group with extensive interests in Mexico.

“EL PAÍS has verified that 209 of the 456 pages of her thesis, Fundamental Rights in the Mexican Legal System and Their Defense, correspond to works previously published by 12 other authors, including a former rector of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM); a former Spanish Minister of Culture and a former president of the Spanish Supreme Court; a former president of the Inter-American Court of Human Rights (IACHR); as well as Mexican, Italian, Spanish, and German jurists. Two of those authors have confirmed the plagiarism to this newspaper. Two Mexican academics, who reviewed the proofs blindly, unaware that they corresponded to a work by the minister, have also determined that it is plagiarism,” the outlet notes to support its claim.

The Minister, who attempted to become president of the Supreme Court, was accused of plagiarizing her undergraduate thesis, also in law, from UNAM and is currently involved in litigation with the university over the issue.

"After being repeatedly questioned by this media outlet," says El País, "the minister responded after the investigation was published this Friday and through her lawyer, Alejandro Romano."
