Elon Musk's company sues Apple and OpenAI

Elon Musk's company has filed a lawsuit against Apple and OpenAI, claiming that the two companies' agreement to integrate the ChatGPT service into the iPhone hinders competition in the artificial intelligence ( AI ) industry.

According to a broadcast by The Verge on Monday (25/8), Elon Musk's xAI and X Corp companies claimed that iPhone users have "no reason" to download third-party AI apps because the phone's settings "force" users to use ChatGPT as their default chatbot app when enabling Apple Intelligence.

"Apple and OpenAI have locked up the market to maintain their monopoly and prevent innovators like X and xAI from competing," Elon Musk's X Corp. and xAI alleged in a lawsuit filed Monday (August 25) in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas.

In the lawsuit filed with the court, the two Elon Musk-owned companies also accused Apple's App Store of "deprioritizing" rival chatbots and "super" apps including Grok and X.
