Igor Babuschkin, co-founder of Elon Musk's artificial intelligence company xAI, announced his resignation from the company in a post on the X platform.
"Today is my last day at xAI, the company I helped found with Elon Musk in 2023," Igor said in a tweet on the X platform.
"I still remember the first day I met Elon. We talked for hours about AI and what the future might hold. We both felt that a new AI company with a different mission was needed," he said, as quoted in a TechCrunch broadcast on Wednesday (August 13).
Babuschkin led the xAI engineering team and helped build the startup into one of Silicon Valley's leading AI model developers just a few years after its founding.
He left xAI to launch his own venture capital firm, Babuschkin Ventures.
According to him, the company will support AI safety research efforts as well as startups that "advance humanity and unlock the mysteries of our universe."
He said he was inspired to found the company after having dinner with Max Tegmark, founder of the Future of Life Institute, and discussing how AI systems could be built safely to drive the development of future generations.
